If you’ve been coming to our club meetings, you may have played against Zane, a young but formidable player who placed first in his division at the 53rd Annual Atlantic Open in Chantilly, VA in August.
Playing in the under 1000 section, Zane had four wins and a draw and tied for first place along with three other players. He scored the highest for performance in the section.
Zane is 12 and started playing chess in January 2021 for fun. Soon after that he found the York Chess Club where he’s challenged many older and more experienced players with his sharp, attacking style.
Zane’s other interests include math, Minecraft, Dungeons & Dragons, sketching, and bicycle riding. He aims to be a chess grandmaster, but for a backup plan, he thinks teaching math would be a lot of fun.
He also runs a monthly chess and board game club for Autism York.
